Hampi, Karnataka

Getting to Hampi

Hampi has no railway station or airport of its own. Most people come through Hosapete, a town about 13 km away, and finish the trip by car or auto.

Where you arrive

The railway station, the bus stands, the nearest airport and Hampi Bazaar. Tap a pin for directions.

The map needs a connection. Every directions link on this page works without it.

Arriving: which side of the river?

The Tungabhadra river divides Hampi in two. Check which side your stay is on before you set off.

Hampi Bazaar side (south bank)

Hampi Bazaar, the Virupaksha Temple, the Royal Centre and Kamalapura are on this side. The road from Hosapete arrives here.

Cars and autos reach the bazaar, Kamalapura, the Royal Centre and the Vittala Temple car park. At Vittala, vehicles stop at the car park and the last stretch is on foot or by battery buggy.

Virupapur Gaddi and Hanumanahalli side (north bank)

Across the river are Virupapur Gaddi, Hanumanahalli, Anegundi and Anjanadri Hill. There is no road bridge at Hampi Bazaar. People cross by boat from the bazaar side during daylight.

The boat stops at dusk, and it may not run at all when the river is high. By car, the north bank is a long drive round over a bridge further along the river. Ask your driver or your stay about the way.
