About this place
Bukka's Aqueduct is a Vijayanagara-era hydraulic work attributed to the early Sangama king Bukka I, on the north bank of the Tungabhadra near Anegundi and Sanapur. What survives is a tall bridge-like span of dressed granite blocks that carried water channels to higher ground across the river from the sacred centre. The unusual height of the structure shows how ambitious the city's water-lifting schemes were before much of the system fell into ruin.
