About this place

The Archaeological Survey of India established the museum at Kamalapura to preserve and interpret objects recovered across the Hampi World Heritage Site. Four galleries surround a central courtyard: Shaiva and Vaishnava sculptures occupy the first galleries, while later displays include copper-plate records, coins, ceramics, tools, weapons, hero stones and material from excavations. Its two topographical models—one of the wider Hampi valley and another of the Royal Centre—are especially useful for understanding how the scattered monuments once formed a connected imperial city.

Good to know

  • The museum is closed on Fridays and national holidays. Timings and ticket prices can change, so confirm at the entrance before planning a special trip.
  • Photography and video are not allowed inside the galleries; photography is generally permitted only in the exterior garden and open-air display areas.
  • Start with the large Hampi topographical model—it makes the Royal and Sacred Centre routes much easier to understand.
