About this place
The Sasivekalu Ganesha is a large monolithic statue of the elephant-headed god, carved from a single block of stone and sheltered by an open pillared pavilion on the southern slope of Hemakuta Hill. 'Sasivekalu' means mustard seed in Kannada, a reference to a legend about Ganesha's belly. A carved snake around the statue's stomach recalls the myth of the god tying his belly after eating too much.
