About this place
Pampa Sarovar is a sacred, lotus-covered tank in Anegundi, counted among the revered lakes of Hindu tradition. It is named after Pampa, a local river goddess and a form of Parvati, who is said to have performed penance here to win Shiva — the very tradition that gives Hampi its old name, Pampa-kshetra. In the Ramayana it is remembered as the place where the devotee Shabari waited patiently to offer berries to Rama. Steps lead down to the green water, and small shrines and a cave temple to Lakshmi sit along its edge, framed by palms and boulders. It is a calm, atmospheric stop on the Anegundi side, often paired with a climb up nearby Anjanadri Hill.
