About this place
The Zenana Enclosure was the secluded, high-walled compound reserved for the royal women of Vijayanagara. Inside its tall stone walls stand some of Hampi's most photographed structures: the elegant Lotus Mahal, the terraced basement of the Queen's Palace (the largest palace base in Hampi), a treasury building, and three watchtowers set at the corners, one in a distinctly Indo-Islamic style. Well-kept lawns now cover what were once courtyards and pavilions, making it an easy, shaded walk. The enclosure is part of the protected ASI zone, and the same ticket covers the Lotus Mahal, the Elephant Stables and the Vittala Temple on the same day.
